When I was 11 and 14, I didn't have a cell phone and I somehow managed to survive. Also, I believe that you can put filters on the phones for free that will weed out inappropriate sites. If you really need to keep tabs of your kids, I heard locking them in a room will help. - Verizon H8er ID: 0DA826

I had the same experience today!!..it's so wrong..I thought they offered a new phone in exchange of locking you in for 2 more years but now they go and add another requirement as if signing a 2 year contract with them is not enough...I had been thinking whether to renew my contract or not but this did it for me! I can easily get a cheaper plan, better phone, better customer service somewhere else! - Verizon H8er ID: 5AA5FE

To the genious who responded first: It's not simply about prohibiting the kids from surfing the web. You can still lock that out. It's about the mandatory $10 monthly charge on top of all of the other extortion tactics that's irritating. I share the frustration of the other posters. I am now shopping around for a new carrier. - Verizon H8er ID: 59ACBF

Is it all of their phones or just some of them? Can we not just pick a phone that does not require a particular package? - Verizon H8er ID: 0DA826

it's not "mandatory". if you do not put the $10 data fee (which is covered by unlimited text messaging for an individual or family) the phone is $50, which is still a huge discount compared to the out right pricing. and as far as the 7 free phones being crappy....yeah...uh....they're for free, ofcourse theyre going to be crappy. - Verizon H8er ID: 8EA193

Absolutely not true that you can pay 50$ and avoid the data charges... there is no way to get any of these phones without the 10$ fee. I have spoken to 3 verizon reps... and am also taking my business elsewhere! - Verizon H8er ID: 685D96

alltel was far better on all levels.. And was the only thing keeping their extortion in check. I had alltel for 8 years. and loved their service. It has gone to crap since the buyout - Verizon H8er ID: 9398F0
